TESCO are trying to muscle in here in Harrogate. I'm dreaming of a day when consumers are sick to death of these retail giants who syphon money out of an area, destroy local economies and bring producers to their knees. The world does not need another supermarket. It's heartening to see sites like this.

I think Worcester could count as another Tesco Town and so I fully support your campaign to prevent your community becoming a Tesco clone town. While being half the size of Inverness we already have 2 large Tescos and 3 Tesco Express stores in Worcester. The old post office which, being by the city-centre's railway centre could have been used imaginatively to improve the station has been acquired by Tesco to create yet another Tesco Express. 1/2 a mile up the road we have been opposing a planning application for another Tesco Express (i.e. 7 stores in total). While the city council refused the application, Tesco took it to appeal at the Planning Inspectorate and today we have learned that, surprise surprise, they have won their appeal. The biggest frustration I have with this process is that it illustrates the powerlessness of local communities to get what they want. I for one will not step foot in it.

They might provide some jobs in the area but what about the smaller local shops they force out of business. I hate the way they try to apply their force to every corner of our lives and I refuse to shop in their stores and stand like a row of skittles in frantic boring lines waiting to part with hard earned money for plastic veg and ill treated meat

It's a totally NUTS decision. Another supermarket to gladden the eye of the visitor off to see Loch Ness. Just what is needed to improve the ambience of Inverness!

I've read the protests in this petition and agree with them all. Where do all the backhanders go to??? Enough is enough we don't need any more TESCOS, We need competition especially from those companies dedicated to animal welfare and that is certainly not TESCOS. I won't shop at them again, ever!

Tesco strives to be a monopoly - and often takes legal action against fair and balanced opinions - in The Guardian, e.g. Fear prevents fair comment.

i OBJECT TO ALL NATIONAL SUPERMARKETS. THEY DO NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THE LOCAL ECONOMY, PROFITS GO DOWN SOUTH, LOCAL SHOP OWNERS AND GROWERS SUFFER, THEY HAVE SUBSTANTIAL CARBON FOOTPRINTS. THE DESIRE FOR AN ASDA OR ANY OTHER SUPERMARKET IS MOTIVATED BY GREED AND WITH NO CONSIDERATION FOR THE LOCAL ECONOMY.
